William Dean Pierce

William D. Pierce, age 75, of Highland, IL., died Friday, October 30, 2009, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL.
He was born January 27, 1934, in Carlinville, IL., the son of Lloyd C. and Helen E. nee Davidson Pierce.
On November 13, 1965, he married Marilyn J. Nau (married 1951@ Pocahontas, IL). He then married Peggy J. Bess on November 13. 1965. She passed away October 11, 2008. His first Wife also preceeded him in death.
Bill was born in Carlinville, IL and grew up in Greenville where he graduated for high school in 1952. He began working for the Illinois State Police on July 8, 1957 and was made Captain on November 30, 1982. He retired as the Deputy Superintendent of Field Operations December 31, 1985 with over 29 years of service.
He was appointed Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police in Highland, IL in early 1986 and served for some 12 years (3/17/86 - 5/2/98). He was named Interim Chief of Police for Collinsville, IL from 9/24/2003 to 6/25/2004 and returned to Highland and again served as Interim Chief of Police. He was appointed Interim City Manager of Highland in 2005 for six months.
He received the East-West Gateway Council of Governments` 2007 Lifetime Public Service Award in November of 2007.
He was the Parade Magazine Police Officer of the Year in the 1970`s. He also received the Bob Hardy Citizen of the Year Award from the Highland Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Highland Rotary Club and Paul Harris Fellow Recipient, Highland Optimist Club, former President of the Highland Area Community Foundation, a 20 year member and Past President of the Highland Chamber of Commerce, and the list of memberships, awards, and accomplishments are endless.
He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, November 2, 2009, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Evangelical United Church of Christ.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL., with Rev. Christopher W. Hill, Senior Pastor,
Evangelical United Church of Christ, officiating.
Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, Ill.

Highland Area Community Foundation.
