Marjorie E. ‘’Marge’’ Gerbig, 94 of Zanesville, died 7:20 PM Friday, October 30, 2009 at Genesis Extended Care & Rehab Center. She was born Wednesday, July 14, 1915 in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Lester K. & Esther (Glasser) McMillen. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Marge attended Muskingum College, then worked for her father at the McMillen Funeral Home at 1112 E. Wheeling Avenue in Cambridge. Later she went to work for the State of Ohio Employment Agency in Zanesville where she retired as supervisor of employment in 1980. She was a lifetime member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, Zanesville Chapter and a member of the Zanesville Country Club. She was a volunteer scorer of the Men's American Cancer Society local golf outing for several years. She loved to play cards, especially Bridge and was an avid golfer, playing in leagues at Jaycees, Green Valley, and was a member of the Zanesville County Club Women's Auxiliary. .
Marge is survived by her husband, Donald F. Gerbig of the home; one daughter: Sue (Richard) Brunn of Massillon; one sister-in-law: Virginia McMillen of Neville Island, PA; six grandchildren: Michael (Kathleen) Rose of Plain City, Kennon Hardesty of California, Michelle Rose of Massillon, Mary (Ricky) Vaughn of Weslaco, TX, Diana (Hampton) Castleberry of Harrisburg, NC and Kim Corrane of Maryland and ten great-grandchildren;
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Floyd Hardesty; one son: Thomas K. Hardesty; and a brother, George McMillen.
No calling hours will be observed and a private graveside service will be held for the immediate family at Zanesville Memorial Park with Rev. Jim Sands officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1950 or the American Heart Association, 14179 Vance Road, Mt. Vernon, OH 43050-9444 in Marge's memory. Arrangements are being handled by The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home.
