Mr. Marion Earl Weiss, age 92, of Highland, IL., died Sunday, October 15, 2006, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL. He was born September 18, 1914, in Pocahontas, IL., the son of Fred and Arlene (Bienecke) Weiss. On March 5, 1938, he married Eva E. (nee Collman) Weiss , who survives. Mr. Weiss was born in Pocahontas, IL and attended Potts County School. He served with the United States Army during WWII with duty in the European, African, Middle Eastern, and Asiatic Pacific from 1943 - 1946, where he received four bronze stars. He was a member of the Local 397 Laborers for over 67 years and had worked for the City of Granite City and Sternberg Construction Company. Mr. and Mrs. Weiss moved from Granite City, IL to Highland in 1978. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, especially Pinochle, hunting, gardening and bowling. He was a former member of St. John`s UCC-Granite City, IL; Laborer`s Local #397; VFW Post #5694-Highland, IL; Former member of VFW Post #1300-Granite City, IL; belonged to a Pinochle Club. Survivors also include Sister-Alice Potts of Altamont, Ill. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Son-David E. Weiss(Died 1968 - killed in action in Vietnam), Brother-Ervin Weiss, Brother-Melvin Weiss, Brother-Robert Weiss, Brother-Milton Weiss, Sister-Norma Mills Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Graveside service will follow visitation on Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at Brown Cemetery in Old Ripley, IL., with Rev. Dave Trover, Pastor United Methodist Church-Pocahontas, IL officiating. Interment will be at Brown Cemetery in Old Ripley, Ill. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and the Parkinson Disease Foundation.
