Robert William Kalbas
1926 - 2005
Kalbas, Robert W., age 79 of Parrish, died Friday, May 6, 2005 at St. Mary`s Hospital. He was born February 22, 1926 in Chicago, IL., the son of William and Elsie (Lawlowski) Kalbas. Bob was a graduate of Taft High School as well as the University of Chicago. Bob served in the Air Force during WWII. He married the former Georgia "May" Franklin on June 19, 1948 in Chicago. He worked many years as a grocer for the Jewel Company. He and May also raised Rottweilers and wire-haired dachhunds at their kennel, the Haus of Kalbas in Naperville. They had many champions to their credit. A visit to the Kalbas ` was a wonderful experience, Bob told everyone stories about his life, remembering both the good and bad times. He was proud of his family and friends and made all feel welcome, offering lots of free advice. He lived life to the fullest while his health permitted it. He took special pride in his greenhouse, where he grew both plants and vegetables to share with friends. He and May enjoyed 57 years of marriage and spent a lot of time traveling visiting friends and family across the U.S. Bob especially enjoyed his trips to Germany. He and May had been residents of the Town of Parrish for the last twenty years.
Bob is survived by his wife, May,
a brother, Bill, Twin Bridges, MT.,
a grandson, Richard Pratt, Irving, TX.,
as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Kevin.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hildebrand-Darton-Russ Funeral Home, 365-4343, with Reverend Allen Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in Summit Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 6 P.M. on Monday, May 9 as well as one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
