James McClurg

James McClurg, mayor of Richmond in 1797, died July 9, 1823. He was 77.
McClurg was born in Hampton, Virginia in 1746. A physician, he was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia to draft a new national constitution.
He advocated establishing a monarchy in the United States.
McClurg is buried in St. John's Churchyard in Richmond.
