John Letcher, governor of Virginia from 1860-63, died January 26, 1884. He was 70.

Born in Lexington, Virginia on March 29, 1813, he was a delegate to the Virginia constitutional convention in 1850.

He was also a U.S. Representative from 1853-59.

Letcher is buried in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery in Lexington.
