Carl W. Studer, 82, of Midland, died Sunday evening, July 13, 2003, at MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born June 14, 1921 in Decatur, Illinois, son of the late Lewis W. and Edna Mae (Owen) Studer. On September 5, 1958 he married Phyllis Florey in Midland. She predeceased him June 30, 1999. He served in the United States Army in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. Carl had been employed with The Dow Chemical Company for 40 years, retiring in 1982. He is survived by children, Lewis Studer, Kimberly Studer, Philip Studer, all of Midland, Krissy Fowler of Sanford, Richard Studer of St. Louis, Jackie Austin of Virginia, Cheryl Studer of Germany, Thomas (Pam) Biggs of Sanford, Nancy (John) Maxwell of Farwell and Diana (Harvey) Strait of Midland; 32 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Lester Studer; sister, Doris Duggan Studer; and special friends, Shirley Colvin, Karl and Deborah Kretz and family. In addition to his parents and wife, Phyllis, he was predeceased by two brothers, Dean and Walter Studer, and one sister, Lois Benson.
~SERVICES~ Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2003, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Pastor John Langewisch will officiate with burial in Midland Memorial Gardens.
~VISITATION~ Carl's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and on Thursday from 12 noon until time of service.
~MILITARY HONORS~ Full military honors will be presented by the Sanford American Legion.
~MEMORIALS~ Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Messiah Lutheran Church.
