I was heart-broken when I heard the news. I remember growing up and every summer my family would go to visit our grandparents (Herman and Peggy Goessling) and I remember us kids would always walk over to the McCooles' house to hang out or for a big family dinner. I thought it was great to hang out with the older cousins. I miss you all and will always cherish those memories.

Of my friend I can only say this...Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels & life, his was the most human.

My wife Carol and I are deeply saddened by the passing of our good friend John and wish to express our condolences to his family and his hundereds of friends. John and I shared many good times, and some of the best were centered around Cardinal baseball. He was a great fan, and loved the Cardinals and the game, just as we loved him. Adios, McCoole, you will be missed. We will catch a game together again someday, buddy. Your pal, Jimmy

Until the day I join him, wherever he is, and pass the guitar back and forth on whatever front porch they might have there, I will continue, when asked for an oath of commitment, to "swear on McCoole's Beard."

I have known John since we went to high school together. In all that time, I have never known anyone who didn't like John, and consider him to be their friend. This is a great legacy, to be envied and admired by all.

John is loved by more people then anyone I've ever known. He saved me more than once, I'll always love him.
